Tables share attribute data and are listed with the other layer types below. There are many different types of data that are represented in ArcGIS Pro as layers. Layers typically comprise vector (feature) or raster data. The type of layer depends on the type of data you have, its underlying structure, and some other variables. To determine the layer type, click it in the Contents pane. The layer type contextual tab set appears in the ribbon. There are essentially three categories of layers in a map document: feature layers, group layers, and raster layers.

Hosted feature layers. Hosted feature layers are layers that have been published to ArcGIS Online. GIS data is what makes a GIS map more than a simple reference map. Data expands the richness of a map: giving the user a deeper, more insightful view of an area or project. As a category, GIS data is quite broad, with considerable variation in terms of: GIS data types; File formats and extensions; Data capture methods; Use cases for the data Last updated on 18:18 Dec 04, 2019. GISualization: visualized integration of multiple types of data

This is the geodatabase that you just downloaded. While a shapefile can only hold one layer of geographic information, a geodatabase is a container that can hold many layers. HongKong.gdb has two: a polygon layer and a line layer. The layers inside a geodatabase are called feature classes.

This module is composed of six lecture. The first lecture "Five Layers of GIS" is an introduction to the third module. QGIS allows you to create new Shapefile layers, new SpatiaLite layers, new GPX layers and new Temporary Scratch layers. Creation of a new GRASS layer is supported within the GRASS plugin. (Please refer to section Creating a new GRASS vector layer for more information on creating GRASS vector layers.) The other types are: Object Class/Layer - Tabular data with no spatial component; Raster Dataset/Layer - Data in a grid format, like aerial photography, Is technically a class as well, but usually referred to as a dataset.

Rooted in the science of geography, GIS integrates many types of data.

New areas are created where polygons intersect. If the input layer contains lines, the lines are split where polygons cross them. 2020-12-24 · What is the function of each of these ArcGIS file types?

For example: A scene layer can be the following types: point, 3D object, integrated mesh, or point cloud. Table—A collection of rows and columns, where each row, or record, represents a feature—such as a parcel or power pole—and each column, or field, describes a particular attribute of the feature, such as its square footage, height, or length. Binary file – An unformatted file consisting of raster data written in one of several data types, where multiple band are stored in BSQ (band sequential), BIP (band interleaved by pixel) or BIL (band interleaved by line). Georeferencing and other metadata are stored one or more sidecar files.

The collection of themes acts as a stack of layers.

A GIS application will normally allow you to set the symbology of a layer using a dialog box such as the one shown in in figure_single_symbol_1. In this dialog box you can choose colours and symbol styles. Depending on the geometry type of a layer, different options may be shown. For example with point layers you can choose a marker style.
